Mum's Taxi

My first act as a parent, so precarious, I took you home.   Now I'm waiting for the ferry and it’s raining and it’s cold. The roads have turned to rivers, the rivers oceans, but you know I will drive against the tide. I’ll be there to take you home.   However far you wander, I am ready by the phone. However dark your journey, I have been there. Yes, I know - There’ll be nights you feel abandoned, staring at the endless road, but I will find you. I’ll pull up beside you, headlights shining, and we’ll turn on the radio. I love to hear you sing. I live to know your song. Since the day of your arrival, I have never felt alone.   So when this party’s over, we’ll share our stories of all the people we have known.   When this party’s finally over, I’ll be there to take you home.     Laura Quigley @lquigleywriting Astronaut by Rebecca Lindsay  Available on www.dlpublishers.co.uk
